She was a longtime resident of Newton, except for a few years in Colfax and Mingo. Jean had worked at some restaurants, nursing homes and at the Herman Deaton Art Studio. She had worked on a series of animal figures. Jean had many talents. Jean was a Christian and loved the Lord. She was an animal lover, taking in several pets. Jean enjoyed writing, art projects, hunting, fishing and any outdoor activities. She passed on her love of the outdoors to several nieces and nephews. They loved to go to the river, the timber or anywhere to learn and respect nature. Jean was born to Cecil R. and Leona M. (Snook) Smith on May 11, 1943 in Newton, Iowa.
