Obituary of Lucille Gabrielle Maxfield

Lucille G. "Lou" Maxfield, the daughter of Oliver J. Mason and Lucille D. Collins, was born February 1, 1920, in Norwalk, Connecticut. She graduated from Batten High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Lou graduated from the University of Iowa in 1947, with a B.A. in Science. On August 9, 1945, Lou was united in marriage with Edward J. Maxfield in Iowa City, Iowa. Lou had worked as a Lab Technician at area hospitals in New York state, for the Merck Company, working research for an entomologist and as the health education director for the Y.W.C.A. in Waterloo, Iowa. She moved to Newton, Iowa in 1986. Lou was a member of Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. She loved her family. Lou enjoyed swimming and water aerobics at the Y.M.C.A. Lou died on Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Nelson Manor in Newton. She was 88 years old. Lou was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward, in April of 1997; her son, David on October 11, 1995; and her two brothers, William Mason and Robert Mason. Those left to honor Lou's memory include her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Craig Thies of Newton and her grandson, Eric and Leah Thies of Ottumwa, Iowa.
