Obituary of Walter Wayne McCumber

Walter Wayne McCumber, 55, of Kellogg, IA, was born November 12, 1953 in Newton, Iowa, the son of Frank Matson and Helen Berneice (Meldrem) McCumber Jr.. A lifelong resident of the Newton and Rock Creek, Iowa areas, he graduated from Newton Senior High School, Class of 1971. He had attended I.S.U. in Ames and D.M.A.C.C. in Ankeny. Walter devoted his life to his family, and was a member of the Newton V.F.W. Post #1655, and was its Quarter Master. He was employed by the Maytag Company in Newton and later by Donaldsons. Walter died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; and his cat, Bull. Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements. A Time of Celebration for Walter will be 11:00 a.m. until 2 p.m., Saturday, December 27, at the Newton V.F.W. Those left to honor Walter's memory include his daughter Jayda Rattcliff of Des Moines; his brothers and sisters: Rodney (Mary) McCumber, Ronald (Edith) McCumber, Sandra Cluck, Teresa (Danny) Young and Rose (Donald) Butler; his special friend Patty Arment of Grinnell; Patty's children: Eliot (Stacie) and Marilyn, with her grandchildren: Dane, Tyler and Cayden, all of Grinnell; his many nieces and nephews; and many good neighbors and friends.
