My memory isn't what it used to be, but I went to grade school with Walter. He probably would have trouble remembering who I was, I was quite the wallflower, but I will always remember Walter's kind and easy going nature. I think Rosie was in my sister Dorena's class. I know Walter will be sorely missed by those who have had the privilege of being part of his daily life.

I had the opportunity to meet Walter in 2007--through Patty and her grandsons--Walt was very helpful to us--we were cleaning my mothers house as she was moving to nursing home--Walt help get some of Dane and Tyler's things out of Mom's house. Plus Walt brought Dame amd Tyler to visit my mother in the nursing home. He always had a smile.

Walter, You never gave up. You could smile and make people smile during the worst of times. You spoke of life often and always noted that life is what you make of it. You always looked at life from a different angle. I often heard you say that you were a 'humanist'. I saw you practice what you said. I know that your Computer-Aided designs were always approached by 'Can the average person use this?' I realize that you will not graduate; however, I will think of you as a CAD Technology designer. I grew up 3 doors down from Walter @ 541 N. 9th Street North. My parents were Parker and Elsie Thompson. The last time I saw Walter was at the !st Christian Church in Newton, several years ago when I was visiting from Scottsdale, Az. where I live. We had about 15-20 minutes to talk and get caught up. I will always have very fond memories of the McCumber family, especially Walter. Tom Thompson

Bill and I wish to send our heartfelt condolences to the family of Walt. He was a wonderful man, and Bill has many, many memories of the two of them growing up together, scouts, and learning to live off the land. I, myself, remember his beautiful voice, so deep and rich! We got to be with him a couple of years ago while we were camping at Rock Creek. What a bunch of memories we shared then.
