Hi Dad,
It is Punkie. I am missing you so much. I realize YOU are in such a beautiful place, heaven. I know you are enjoying everyone whom passed before you. I am so glad to know you are walking, talking and smiling once again.
I want you to know how thankful I am for giving and teaching me to have strength, patience, self-reliance and wisdom.
Please, Dad, watch over us, guide us, protect us and help us.
Until we see each other again. I will keep our special moments we shared on this earth special. Dad, I love you. You have always been and always will be "My Hero!"
Love YOU today as always,

You would think after all I wrote you, that I would have said my peace...
I would light a million candles if it would brighten the world as you did for me. Thank you for opening my eyes..
"Will I stand in your presence or to my knees will I fall? Will I sign hallelujah, will I be able to speak at all?"
I can't wait to see you again. Thank you for everything, kind sir. You always have a place in my heart.
Until next time, dear grandpa...

While I never had the privilege of meeting Mr. Sports, I can attest to the quality and compassion of his family, especially his grandchild, Breanna Stayskal, and to the memories that she has shared with me of him. He must have been an incredible man to have led such a fabulous family and the world is a better place because he was part of it. May his memory be a blessing to all those who mourn.

In this day and age I think that character has lost its place among the definition of what makes a man. It has been replaced by worldly possessions such as who has the biggest house, the fanciest car, and all those other useless possessions of status. My Grandpa, was a man of character and of morals and values. How can I tell? Just look at the family he helped raise with the loving support of his wife (love ya grandma). These are some of the finest human beings I have ever had the pleasure of coming into contact with. He taught my Dad many valuable lessons, which he has passed on to me, and hopefully someday I can pass these stories on to my children. Although I have may gotten a bigger kick out of these stories the my Dad ( he usually just got a kick in the pants!) I still see the values of these lessons. They have helped mold me into the moral and just man I am today, and I thank him for that. I would also like to thank him for all of those memorable summer trips I took to the farm as a child. Taking me out into the fields on his tractor to show me how to herd the cows in. I'll never forget the first time he let me drive the tractor. I felt like such a big boy sitting on his lap, while he down-shifted and let me steer. The smell of grilling steaks and fresh cut corn during those afternoon bar-be-ques, the baseball games, the long Midwest sunsets as time almost seemed to stop as the sun melted into the corn fields around us, and the catching of fireflys in our little jars as we got lost in the darkness of the summer night.I have been to many places around the world, but nothing was better than those summer trips of my youth. The farm always felt like home to me, and although my time spent there was short I'll always treasure those summers. I may have been living in California Grandpa, but you were never more than a thought or prayer away from me. I want to thank you for raising such a great Dad for me, this has been really tough on him, but I think our bond now is stronger than ever. I want to thank you Grandpa for being a man of just morals and principles in a world that seems so shallow nowadays. Well, I guess its up to me now to carry on the Sports family name, I hope I can do you proud. Say hi to Chico for me Grandpa, I know he was waiting for you. From what my Dad say he was the best dog anyone could ever hope for. They say that how a dog acts is a reflection of their owner. My Dad would tell me stories about Chico sleeping outside in his doghouse when it was 10 or 20 degrees below freezing, and that he wouldn't whine or complain about anything. Wow, that's character. I love you Grandpa and will always keep you in my thoughts. And you don't have to worry Grandpa, if I ever get a tractor I'll make sure it's a Farmall and not a John Deere. Love Ya Man!
God Bless,
Your Grandson

I wish I could be there with the family to say good-bye to Grandpa. I'm really thankful I got to spend time with him last Spring. I'll always remember riding in the tractor with him on the farm when I was a little girl! I love you grandpa and I'll miss you!!

To my wonderful grandfather: I thank you so much for all of the memories we have shared over the years. You have shown me the beauty in God's earth by working with your own two hands in the soil; I now follow your lead. Memories of catching fireflies in jars under the old oak tree out in front of the farmhouse on a warm July evening will live with me always, as will the stories, the laughter and the lessons you have shared with me over the years. I hope to share your legacy with my own family someday. I love you, I miss you, and I will forever be inspired by you. Your granddaughter, Christina

I will never forget the first time I met you and Nondas. I pulled up into a meadow of snow with a house in the middle. How I found your farm I will never know. You both greeted me so warmly, and made me feel welcome. Ever since, you always included me as part of the family. I felt the love in your heart for me, as well as my children. You gave all of us so much joy when we visited you during those lazy, crazy days of summer on the 'ole pig farm. What a wonderful experience it was, and I will always treasure the memories you gave us. I wish I could have gotten to Iowa to say one last goodbye.
But I know that with a smile on your face, and a twinkle in your eye, you are looking down from your cornfield in the sky, Chico by your side, and Aunt Hattie fussing over you. I will miss you, and will always love you. Gay

Hi Daddy, Tillie is with you for enternally now. Us kids really need you both to watch us. We are having a very difficult time these past few days waiting for the service. However, we all are holding on to what was taught in the family. To be honest, this time it is reaaly tough and we all are just making things happen moment by moment...but you already know that. We call out for understanding, patience and kindness to help us make it through. Miss you, Daddy, but I know you are so happy to see Mom once again. See you soon. Love you eternally and forever. Punk
