Obituary of Jeffrey Lynn Doyle
Please share a memory of Jeffrey to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jeffrey Lynn Doyle, the son of Alan Franklin and Marjorie Louise (Ellis) Doyle, was born January 26, 1957 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He graduated from the South Tama County High School. On August 21, 1982 Jeff was united in marriage with Geri Ann Nekola in Tama, Iowa. Together they made their home in Tama, Toledo and Newton.
Some of you may know him as a husband, father, son, brother, basketball coach, the ice cream man, or his long time nickname Ox. Anyone that knew Jeff couldn't miss his sarcastic sense of humor and great outlook on life even through his illness. Throughout this process you would never guess he was ill because he would always remain positive and when asked commonly would say, "I'm fine". His major concern and joy in life was his wife and girls. If Jeff could hear this he would be saying, "oh whatever" as we all knew he was a very private man and did not like being catered to let alone being center of attention.
Jeff was owner of Cardinal Corner Ice-cream, which he just recently sold because of his health. Previously he worked for Maytag and was self-employed as a contractor remodeling homes. Jeff was a member of the Newton Elks Lodge.
Some of Jeff's interests were going out to his lake home and riding on the boat with family and friends. He was a sport fanatic, played golf, poker with the boys, loved to travel especially to Jamaica. He coached girls' basketball at South Tama before moving to Newton where he coached AAU girls' basketball. He had a passion for coaching and knew the game. Jeff even had the pleasure of coaching his two daughters.
Jeff passed away from pancreatic cancer, which he fought for 22 months, on May 24, 2011 in the Hospice of Jasper County Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center. He was 54 years old. Jeff was preceded in death by his father in 2009, his father-in-law in 2010, and his mother-in-law in 2011.
Those left to honor Jeff's memory include his wife, Geri of Newton; his daughters, Aubrie E. Doyle of Ankeny and Mallorie L. Doyle of Newton; his mother, Marjorie Doyle of Tama; his brothers, Andy, of LaClaire, IA and Tim, of Toledo, IA; his sisters-in-law, Suzanne Nekola of Grinnell, Regina (Casey) Nekola-Hild of Atlanta, GA and Lorraine (Jon) Howard of Omaha, NE; his brother-in-law, Rex Nekola; his nieces and nephews, Jasmine, Cody, Sabrina and Connor and his many friends.
Memorial services will be held 6:30 p.m. Friday, May 27th at the First Christian Church in Newton. The family will greet friends at the church Thursday evening from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
The family respectfully requests no flowers. To carry out Jeff's benevolent wishes memorials may be designated in Jeff's name or to the Hospice of Jasper County or to Progress Industries and may be left at the church or at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
