Obituary of Lucille B. Snodgrass

Lucille B. Snodgrass, know to her
friends as Lucy died at age 90 at the Monarch Wing of Skiff Hospital on May
27, 2009. Lucille Brooks was born in
July 1918, in Burgess, Illinois to Rolla W. and Mary E. (Parkinson)
Brooks. Her family moved to the Kellogg
and Newton area soon after that. Lucille
graduated from Newton High School in 1935 and received her Normal Training from
NHS a year later. She taught in rural
schools in Jasper County for six years.
Lucille worked for the Maytag Company for 25 years, retiring in
1984. She was an active member of First
Evangelical Lutheran Church for 60 years.
Lucy was a dedicated volunteer for many organizations throughout her
life. She loved to dance and looked
forward to dances in the surrounding area.
She was the proud mother of two daughters, Joyce Carleton (Edward) of
Plano, Texas and Joan Cowell of Kansas City, Missouri. Lucys five grandchildren are Stacy Sears
Wilson (Andrew of Omaha, Todd Cowell (Molly), Tanya Rees (Will), and Brad Sears
(Tracy) of the Kansas City area and Megan Sears of Denver, Colorado. Her 12 great grandchildren: Taylor, Morgan,
Josh and Madison Cowell, Katie Rees and Claire Johnston, Zach, Colin and Carly
Wilson, Reid, Aidan and Paige Sears.
Lucille was preceded by her parents, her sister, Virginia Allen, her
brothers, Benjamin and Verne Brooks.
Funeral services will be held
Saturday, May 30, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Newton.
Friends may greet the family from
6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts
to First Lutheran Church or Hospice of Jasper County.
The family would like to thank her
many friends, the staffs of Newton Village, Nelson Manor and Hospice of Jasper
County and Pastor Vrankin for their love, kindness and excellent care.
