Obituary of John Carl Daehler

John Carl Daehler, 75, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the Veteran's Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services for John will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2011, at the Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who has been entrusted with the arrangements. A time of conversation, remembering and celebration of John's life, will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the John Daehler Memorial Fund, are being designated.
John, the son of Ferdinand and Effie (Maytag) Daehler, was born November 14, 1935, in Cook County, Illinois. He grew up in Boone, Iowa and was a graduate of the Boone Senior High, Class of 1954, received his BA degree from Grinnell College in 1958 and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Denver in 1962. John served his country with the US Army, 1960-1966, at the beginning of the Vietnam War.
John dedicated his life to his friends, and enjoyed genealogy. He was an active member of the Jasper County Genealogical Society and Jasper County Historical Society. John was employed as an interior designer and decorator, for several years.
Those left to honor John's memory include his nephew David (Lori) Daehler of Newton; a niece Diane (Robert)Daehler Hagarty of Cedar Rapids; two great-nieces and two great-nephews; and his many extended family and friends.
