John W. Weston
John (Johnny) Weston, 79, of Mingo passed away on Friday evening, April 10, 2020 at MercyOne Medical Center In Des Moines. The Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, is entrusted with the arrangements. Burial will take place at the Union Chapel Cemetery, rural Ira at a later date (to be determined). In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated to John’s family, or to a charity of your choosing.
John William Weston, son of John Orlo and Lena Lucille (Welle) Weston, was born on May 1, 1940 in Newton. John grew up in Mingo and graduated from Mingo High School in 1959. John served his country in the US Army Reserves for six years and studied Agricultural Business at Iowa State University.
On September 27, 1964, John married the love of his life, Emma Jane Houston. Emma remained his best friend and faithful companion through their 55 years of marriage. John was very proud of his family including two children, three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
John enjoyed his work and was known for his work ethic. He retired from his position as Manager for Western Sire Services (Gordon, NE) celebrating a long and admirable career in the fields of Livestock and Agriculture. Upon retirement, John and Emma returned to Mingo where they enjoyed the company of family, who are very close nit. John was a member of the Mingo United Methodist Church and the Iowa Donkey and Mule Society, where he was serving on the board.
John is survived by his wife Emma of Mingo; sons: Todd Weston and Kenneth Weston; his three grandchildren: Loni Leedom, Lucas Weston, and Linzi VanWyk; and two great-great grandchildren: Emma Leedom (9) and Lena VanWyk (7 months); his sisters: Connie Neal and Patricia Penn; and many good neighbors and friends. John was preceded in death by his parents: John and Lena Weston; two brothers-in-law: Darrel Neal and Larry Penn; and a nephew: Donald Neal.
Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public visitation or memorial at this time.
