Obituary of Stephen Allen Tomlin
Steve passed away July 7, 2017, at his home in Newton.
A time of remembrance and celebration of life will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at the First Presbyterian Church in Newton, with visitation at the church one and half hours prior to the services. The Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. A coffee time at the church, will follow the committal services at the cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, memorials may be designated to the family in Steve's name.
Stephen Allen Tomlin, 66, was born March 5, 1951, in Newton. He was a graduate of the Newton Senior High, Class of 1969. He served his country with the US Navy/Reserves for six years during the Vietnam war. He studied Christian Education at the Assemblies of God Graduate School of Theology and Open Bible College in Des Moines, where he served as Dean of Students. Steve was employed by the US Postal Services, serving at Urbandale's bulk mail center, worked in Knoxville, in Grinnell as Assistant Postmaster and retired in 2013 as the Postmaster in Colfax.
On March 29, 2003, Steve was united in marriage to Willa L. Kreager in Newton. Steve enjoyed life, and was a member of the Newton American Legion Post #111, Jasper County Vietnam Veterans and Life member of the Newton V.F.W. Post #1655.
Steve is survived by his wife Willa; a son Christopher Tomlin of Des Moines; step daughter; Laura Illingworth of Raleigh, NC; his sister Shirley Ham (Angelo Nigro) of Des Moines; his brother: Dick (Kathy) Tomlin of Des Moines; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Mike (PC) Kreager of Ft. Wayne, IN and John Amadon of Florida; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and his many good neighbors and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a half-brother Johnny Bill (Viola) Tomlin; a sister Nancy Amadon
