I just learned of Steve's passing recently from an obituary for Stanley Humphrey. The three of us served our country, in the the Navy, on board the USS Gridley DLG21. We shared two 6 months + deployments to the coast of Vietnam, and many other US Naval assignments related to the security of our country.
Please except my most sincere belated condolences to Steve's family. He was one of my best friends during that time and I deeply regret not staying connected with him after that time.
May God bless him.

Very sorry to hear of Steves passing. I played Little League baseball with Steve. My wife was great friends with sister Nancy and we knew Dick and wife Kathy well when we lived in Newton years ago. Our hearts go out to the entire Tomlin family. Denise and I sat at a table and shared moments with Steve and Willa at our class reunion 2 yrs ago. What a great guy. Please accept our condolences and prayers at this very difficult time. Mike & Denise Creagan.

Steve was my 1st Postmaster, and a great postmaster he was. Always going the extra mile for his employees so easy to work for !
All good postmasters go to heaven, and that's where I will see him someday.
May God bless you and all your family and comfort you through your loss .

Wow! Over 56 years of friendship...From pickup baseball at Sunset Park, exploring Bum's Tunnel...Roller Skating, Capitol Theater movies, snowball fights, fishing, hunting pheasants and ducks, serving in the Navy and sharing an apartment in Long Beach when our ships were in port together...
Pranks...Steve took the first turn to get groceries in Long Beach to get our shared groceries. Returning, Steve brought in sack after sack...All filled with 6-packs! (and when delighted could squeeze his hands together to make a chirping sound while displaying an ear-splitting grin).
Jokes, stories, and fun times shared with my wife and sons as well because he became family and will be missed tremendously.

Steve and I joined the Navy together. I never will forget how secure I felt with Steve when we left Newton and ventured out into an unknown world at the ages of 18 years old. Now as a pastor and Steve as well in service for the Lord, we will see each other in eternity. . You have fought a good fight and indeed you have finished the course. Love you all,
Dana
