Obituary of Helen C. Barton

Helen C. Barton, the daughter of Ray A. and Hazel D. (Whittaker) Carrier, was born July 26, 1927 in Newton, Iowa. Helen graduated from the Newton Senior High with the class of 1945. She went on to receive her Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Iowa in 1948. On September 18, 1948, Helen was united in marriage with Donald E. Barton I Newton, Iowa. Helen had worked for the Cross and Hammel Law Firm as a secretary and then as a bookkeeper for two of Don's businesses. Helen was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ; CVTTT and HS PEO. She served as a board member of the Newton YMCA and the Newton Community School District. She enjoyed playing tennis and bridge. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Don, on January 2, 2014 and her son, Jeffrey R. Barton on July 14, 2011. Those left to honor Helen's memory include her son, Bruce D. (Pam) Barton of Boca Raton, Florida; her grandsons, Trevor (Brittany) Barton and Colby Barton; her nephew, Gary (Diane) Simpson and many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Memorial services will be held 12:00 p.m. , Friday, October 30th at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton. The family will greet friends following the service during lunch at the church. Memorials may be designated in Helen's name to the church and may be left at the Congregational Church or at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
