Obituary of Evelyn JoAnne Phelps

Evelyn JoAnne Phelps, 77, passed away on Sunday, April 6, 2014, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Memorial services will be held at 9:30 am Wednesday, April 9th at St. Luke United Methodist Church. The family will greet friends following the service. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Ethel (McAninch) Hanke and a daughter, Cathrine Kay Dodd.
Those left to honor Evelyn’s memory include her daughters, Becky (Chuck) Wennihan of Newton, Linda Smith of Newton and Sherry Dodd of Newton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and her brother, Paul Hanke of Kirksville, Missouri.
Evelyn graduated from the Newton Senior High school with the class of 1954. She was employed for fifteen years at Midtown Café as their baker.
