Obituary of Myrna L. Collins

Myrna L. Collins, the daughter of Marion and Mildred (Fender) McFarland, was born August 15, 1958, in Douglas County, Nebraska. She was graduated from Sidney, Iowa High School and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Iowa State University in Ames. Myrna moved to Des Moines, Iowa and served as a Police Cadet and attended the police academy. On July 8, 1994, in Beatrice, Nebraska, Myrna was united in marriage to David W. Collins. They resided in rural Newton, Iowa and Myrna became a Police Officer for the Newton Police Department, retiring in 2001 after 15 years of service. Myrna loved her family and looked forward to her first grandchild due in March 2014. She and David were both licensed pilots and enjoyed flying in their Piper 180 to various locations. Myrna passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister Marilyn Yurka. Those left to honor the memory of Myrna include her husband David W. Collins of Newton, son and daughter-in-law Mitchell and Tinneille Collins of Newton, brother and sister-in-law Marvin and Angie McFarland of Fremont, Nebraska and brother-in-law Randy Yurka of Beatrice, Nebraska. A public gathering with the family will begin at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, January 25th at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home. Memorials are being designated to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society and may be left at the funeral home.
