Julie,
I am so sorry for your loss! I was thunderstruck when I heard the news. I wish I had made the trip over to Newton to at least say hello. I was privileged to work with Pete for a year at the Daily News. In that short period of time, I found a friend and a great boss. I regret that I didn't keep in touch after I left Newton. Pete was always full of life and energy. There were many times when he and the rest of the editorial staff grabbed a bite and/or a beverage after the paper was put to bed. Pete was a great citizen! He will be sorely missed. My thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time.

Julie, we were so vey sorry to hear of Pete's passing. He was a friend to so many and we are blessed to have worked with him on St Nick's Christmas Club. His dedication to the Club was truly from the heart. He gave so much of himself. He will be greatly missed. We extend our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Sorry we were unable to attend the services but are wintering in Arizona. Thinking of you, fondly.

While I was publisher of the Newton Daily News, from 1998 to 2002, Pete was the managing editor. In my 35-year newspaper career I never met a more dedicated journalist. Pete loved sorting through the intricacies of local civic matters and reporting to the reading public. Not only was he an ardent supporter of freedom of the press, but he was a courageous writer, never afraid to venture into deep waters to get the truth. I had great admiration for his reporting skills. His passing is a great loss for the citizens of Newton, and a personal loss for those who had the privilege of working with him.

I am so disheartened that I did not realize Pete had posted on Newton Independent on Jan 17; therefore I did not send a message of encouragement to this fantastic journalist who always sought and reported the truth.
