Obituary of Cynthia Kelly

Cynthia June Kelly, 62, the daughter of Joseph Eugene and Evelyn Beth Coop Kelly, was born October 30, 1951, in Tipton, Iowa. She graduated from Newton High School Class of 1969. She attended Grinnell College then graduated from the University of Iowa. She lived most of her life in Des Moines, Iowa where she worked for the State of Iowa and retired in January 2013. She recently moved to Newton to be closer to family. Cynthia was an member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Des Moines, but attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Newton while visiting family. Cynthia was devoted to her work and loved spending time with family, especially her nieces and nephews. She enjoyed sailing, reading and her pets.
Cynthia passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to honor the memory of Cynthia include her brother Pat Kelly of Davenport, Iowa, brother Mike Kelly and Brenda Reitz of Grand Ledge, Michigan, brother Tim Kelly of Newton, Iowa, sister Theresa and Rick Stewart of Newton, Iowa, sister Lisa Cummins of Newton, Iowa, brother Jim Kelly and Finley Chunn of Dallas, Texas, nieces and nephews Sean and Stephanie Kelly, Christina and Sam Geer, Rob and Melissa Stewart, Scott and Kayla Kelly, Kati Cummins and Jason Wilcox, Jenny Cummins, Paul Kelly, Nick Kelly, John and Anna Kelly, and Ryan Kelly and her great nieces and nephews Mary Evelyn Geer, Davis Geer, Lily Stewart and Caden Joseph Kelly.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2014, at 10:30 am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. A public Vigil Service will be held Wednesday, January 8, 2014, 6:00 pm at Pence-Reese Funeral Home. A visitation will be from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm on Wednesday at Pence-Reese Funeral Home and from 9:30 am to 10:30 am Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Memorials have been designated to St. Jude Children's Hospital.
