Funeral services for Norma Myers, 94. will be 6:30 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2009 at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 12 noon on Monday. Visitation with the family will be held from 7-8 pm following the 6:30 pm service. Additional services will be held Wednesday, March 11th at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home in Lincoln, Nebraska with visitation from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 pm and a funeral service at 12:30 p.m.
Entombment will take place in the Lincoln Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Memorials in Norma's name will be designated to Willowbrook Adult Day Care Center, Hospice of Jasper County and Newton Healthcare Center Activity Fund.
Norma C. (Schroff) Myers, the daughter of Charles Schroff, Jr. and Natalie Lydia Frey, was born August 26, 1914 in Steinauer, Nebraska. Norma was graduated from Steinauer High School with the Class of 1931. On June 30, 1933, Norma was united in marriage to Ben H. Myers.
Together they owned and operated Ben Your Hairdresser, Inc. from 1939 until 1975. Norma was Vice President, Bookkeeper and Receptionist of the corporation for 30 years as the business grew to several salons and a beauty school. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lincoln, Daughters of the Nile and BPOE Does. Norma was a model for the business, she loved being with family, traveling together, gardening and canning, supporting the Nebraska Football Team and was a Cubs Fan.
Norma died on Thursday, March 5th in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center. She was preceded by her parents, husband Ben in 1996, brothers Warren Schroff in 1953, Gilbert Schroff in 2008 and Great-Grandson Adam Michael Barnett on Feb. 1, 2008.
Those left to honor the memory of Norma include two daughters and spouses Jacqueline and Raymond Barnett of Newton, IA, Patricia and Michael Murphy of Fruita, CO, four grandchildren Steven (Bonnie) Barnett of Newton, Barbara (Frank) Svoboda of Grapevine, TX, Terri Flowerday of Albuquerque, NM, Julie (Deon) Kuhl of Morrison, CO, seven great-grandchilden, two great-great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Barbara Schroff of Redwood City, CA.
