Obituary of Stanley - - - Rooda

Stanley Rooda Newton Funeral services for Stanley, will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Friends may call one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Stanley Rooda, 77, the son of Andrew and Clara (Van Dyk) Rooda, was born May 8, 1931 in Vrouwen Parochie, Friesland, the Netherlands. He had completed all of his school education in the Netherlands. His family moved to the United States in October 1948. Stanley served his country with the United States Army, 1951-1954. In January 1954, Stanley was united in marriage with Beatrice Roose in Peorie, Iowa. To this union a son was born, Larry, in October of 1954. Stanley would operate the Dutch Inn Caf in Pella, Iowa, prior to his family moving to the Newton area. He was employed in various jobs, retiring from the Maytag Company. He devoted his life to his family, and was a faithful caregiver to his wife and son, who both suffered from Muscular Dystrophy. He enjoyed the outdoors, gardening and reading. Stanley passed away on Thursday morning, March 5, 2009 at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Beatrice on Aug. 30, 1998; his son Larry on Jan. 1, 2000; a brother Gerrit Rooda and his sister Renee Van Zee.
