To Steve's family:
I moved to Newton in 1977, a single mom, raising my son Larry Pettigrew. It was Steve and his family who took Larry into their fold and took him to ballgames and other places that I couldn't. He enjoyed being with your family and I truly appreciate the support you gave us both.
God bless you! Gloria

TYTHENE BARNES posted a condolence
Where to start? The first day I met Steve I was overwhelmed with his character. I was brought to tears, thinking WOW I wish he was my dad. After my nephew was murdered (Jerry Pittman) Steve took great care of our family, was always forthright in the truth and fought through his illness (selfishly) to ensure justice. I was astounded when Steve and Janet showed up for trial along with their beautiful daughter. Then again, why wouldn't he? He was just that kind of man! Though I only knew Steve a short while, I grew to deeply respect and admire him. Steve promised me one day at trial that he would come from heaven to say hello. I've been searching around the house looking for him, no sign of him yet! I'm sure he's busy whispering in his children's ears, "No more tears."
God Bless your family,
Much Love,
Tythene Barnes (Tabby)

Dan Swedberg posted a condolence
Dear Family and Friends of Steve,
Your loss of this courageous and generous man must be tremendous. In family gatherings while growing up the Johnson family has always been gracious, enthusiastic, and warm. Steve has certainly been a credit to carrying on that tradition. It was just a few weeks ago that Steve and I talked by phone and the serious condition that he was in was not apparent from his appreciation of his happy life and family. Cousin Steve was a wonderful guy who will be greatly missed.
With love, Dan Swedberg

Scott, Stephanie and Family,
My heart goes out to you. I'll never forget the time my parents took me to visit with your father... I was fifteen and due to my mouthiness and a few poor choices, my parents feared my staying on the right track. So I ended up in The Steve Johnson's Office for some straight talk! I figured out pretty quick that my parents weren't so bad afterall, he opened my eyes to the alternatives! Years later he did my will in your home, while your mom played with my son. Now that's some heart and going above and beyond! Once again, may peace and joy get you through this difficult time.

Steve was always one of my favorite classmates; so easy going and friendly to all. It was a honor to know Steve he did everthing at 120%. He made me a better person and gave me a new outlook on life.We had a meth lab back fire on us a few years ago and a couple of officers went down with the fumes. After we had got the scene under controll he came up to me and said have I talked to my boy. See my boy Craig is a dispatcher for the county. I said no and he handed me his cell phone to call Craig to tell him I was ok. From that day on Steve showed me to always think of other peoples thoughts not just your own. He always made me feel welcome and would say hi to me whenever we crossed paths I have a great pride in calling Steve my Friend and colleauge.
God Bless You
Bruce Keith

Julie and Family,
There was a summer during our elementary school days that I think I spent nearly everyday with you and your family. We'd eat Tasty Freeze twist ice cream by the gallon, spy on Steph and her “friends, play Mario, and stay up late laughing. These are memories I hold dear to me. Your family was so warm, loving, and welcoming. I just loved that time I got to spend there.
Your dad in particular was an amazing man. I can hear him now, "Hey Alli-cat, how's it going?" He had the greatest, most distinctive voice--deep, warm, raspy, and safe. He also gave the best hugs--hugs that made you feel special and loved. I've always looked up to your dad and thought of him as a wonderful man. I now have a son of my own, and another one on the way, and I can only hope they turn out be half as smart, kind, witty, honest and loving as your dad was. He made a difference in my life and will always live on in my thoughts and memories.
Please know you are all in my thoughts.
Love,
Alli

I never had the chance to meet Mr. Johnson (senior) but I have had the pleasure working with his son Scott for several year. Steve was one of the most caring and great friend anyone could have. He cared about what was right more than did about charging for his services.
