Obituary of Laurine Margaret Wortendyke

Laurine Margaret Wortendyke, the daughter of Samuel Leland Barr and Ethel Ladora Milligan, was born April 17, 1917, in rural Newburg, Iowa. Laurine attended business college and worked as an administrative assistant for the dean of John Marshall Law School in Chicago. On December 3, 1955, Laurine was united in marriage with Roy Albert Wortendyke at the United Methodist Church in Kellogg, Iowa. Laurine had lived in the Chicago area, in Monee, IL and Newton, IA. She was a member of St. Paul's Good Shepherd United Protestant Church in Park Forest, IL and the Kellogg United Methodist Church. Laurine loved her family. She lived her life with a desire to help others. She enjoyed gardening and singing with several groups, ministering to many in her community. Laurine died on Monday, January 5, 2009, at the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, IA. She was 91 years old. Laurine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy, on January 18, 1981; her brothers, John, Owen and Chester; her sisters, Ida Weaver and Bertha Mae Barr. Those left to honor Laurine's memory include her brothers, Floyd and Lorene Barr of Kellogg and Frank and Shirley Barr of Kellogg and many nieces and nephews.
