Sylvia E. "Sally"(Riherd) Shaw Newton Private Family Funeral services for Sally, will be Tuesday, December 9, 2008, entrusted to the Pence - Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A public visitation with the family present, will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8 at the Pence~Reese Funeral Home. Sylvia E. "Sally" Shaw, 66, the daughter of James Kenneth and Sibyl M. (Donahue) Riherd was born February 1, 1942 in Knoxville, Iowa. A resident of the Red Rock area through the 8th grade, she graduated from the Monroe, Iowa Senior High School, Class of 1960. She then moved to the Newton area. On January 24, 1963, Sally was united in marriage to Monfred John Shaw in Colfax, Iowa. She was employed by the Maytag Company, retiring in the late 1980's as a Dryer Inspector. She also was a Home Health Aid, and was a Red Cross volunteer at the Iowa State Fair and for the ski patrol. Sally was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who loved spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, antiques and crocheting. Sally died on December 5, 2008, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister-in-law Shirley Riherd. Those left to honor the memory of Sally include her two daughters: Kelly Lynn (Tony) VerMeer of Pella, Iowa and Teresa Jo (Kent) VanVark of Pella; her two sons: Tony Michael Shaw of Arizona and Eddy Paul (Heidi) Elliott of Rochester, Minnesota; her thirteen grandchildren: Jacob, Emma, Maxwell, Lisa, Lindsay, Kelsey, TeeJay, Kendra, Kegan, Benjamin, Brady, Destenie and Paige; her three great-grandchildren; her sister JaneRuth (Randy) Utterback of Newton; two brothers: Jimmy Riherd of Pella and Phillip (Barbara) Riherd of Bangor, Maine; and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be designated in Sally's name or to the Hospice of Jasper County.
