Funeral services for Kenneth will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 18, 2008 at Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. Friends may call after 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with the family present 6 p.m. until 8. Memorials are designated in Kenneth's name to: Community Heights Alliance Church, Hospice of Jasper County or Nazarene Church, and may be left at the Funeral Home or at the services.
Kenneth E. Loomis, 78, the son of Manford E. and Ruth I. (Tufts) Loomis, was born April 29, 1930 in Des Moines, Iowa. He attended East High School in Des Moines. Kenneth was a retired over the road trucker, employed by Pulley Freight twenty-one years and Hy-Vee Food Store sixteen years, in 2008.
On August 21, 1971, Kenneth was united in marriage with Sonnie Brodersen Smith in Newton. He was a member of the Teamsters Union, Church of the Nazarene, and attended Community Heights Alliance Church in Newton. Kenneth had devoted his life to his family, enjoying his grandchildren, his church, sports and reading his bible.
Kenneth died on Sunday afternoon, September 14, 2008, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Those left to honor Kenneth's memory include his wife Sandra "Sonnie" Loomis of Newton; son Douglas (Paula) Loomis of Des Moines; his daughters: Kathy (Ole) Jensen of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Diana (Ray) Owens of Memphis, Tennessee, Robin (Carl) Day Jr. of Norwalk, Iowa and Cindy (Mike) McCoy of Altoona, Iowa; his nine grandchildren: Jane LaFleur, Kirk Day, Patricia Day, Scott Jensen, Rodney Jensen, Cody McCoy, Cameron McCoy, Monica Loomis and Justin Loomis; five great-grandchildren; his brothers: Keith S. (Peggy) Loomis of Walker, Minnesota and Donald J. Loomis of Madison, Wisconsin; and his many good neighbors and friends.
