Funeral services for Sharron L. Meyer, of Newton, Iowa, will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 9, 2008, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home of Newton. A visitation will be just prior to services, from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
Sharron L. Meyer, 68, the daughter of Marvin Nielsen and Ruby (Tammen) Nielsen-Grush, was born February 26, 1940 in Rock Rapids, Iowa. She was a high school graduate.
On May 27, 1960, Sharron was united in marriage with Kenneth R. Meyer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They lived in Minnesota until 1971, when they moved to the Newton area. Sharron was employed at Heritage Health Care as Active Coordinator and Social Service Designee, 1972 82; Skiff Medical Center, as a Tech, 1982-84; and Administrator of McCann Village 1984-98, and Ambassador at Skiff Medical Center and Sugary Waiting Room, 1998-2003. She had devoted her life to her husband and family, and was a member of the First Lutheran Church; RSVP, past advisory board member; Heritage Health Care Review Committee; Hospice of Jasper County; SHARE; Jasper County Medical Decision Making Board; Air Fair Committee; Mensa; Sir Rustalot Storyline Reader; and Jasper County Extension Board. Sharron enjoyed spending time with her family and church family, community service, Newton Citizen Police Academy and serving on the RAGBRAI committee.
Sharron passed away on Monday evening, August 4, 2008 in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Her father and mother preceded her in death.
Those left to honor Sharron's memory include her husband Kenneth of Newton; her son Scott (Lee) Meyer of Sterling, Virginia; daughter Victoria (Joel) Van Nevele of Jesup, Iowa; her four grandchildren: Kenley Scott Wade, Patick Jude Wade, Melatha Elizabeth Lee Wade and Emily Catherine Ruby Wade; her sisters: Patricia Putz of Newton and Martha Saenz of Montezuma, Iowa; her brother John Grush of Boone, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and her many good neighbors and friends.
Memorials in Sharron's name are being designated to the First Lutheran Church or Hospice of Jasper County.
