Obituary of David Ray McCleary

David R. McCleary Newton Graveside services for David R. McCleary will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Newton Union Cemetery in Newton. Friends may call after 1 p.m. until services time on Tuesday, July 22 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, with the family present. Memorials are designated in David's name, and may be left at the Funeral Home David R. McCleary, 85, the son of John Henry and Ida Mae (Martin) McCleary, was born July 19, 1923 in Missouri. He attended rural schools and farmed for several years, moving to Newton, Iowa in 1963. He was employed by the Maytag Company, retiring from Winpower in Newton, in 1982. On February 2, 1948, David was united in marriage with Josephine "Jo" Luella Long in Neosho, Missouri. He had devoted his life to his family, enjoying fishing, walking, feeding the birds and squirrels, and watching western movies. David died on Sunday morning, July 20, 2008, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters. Those left to honor David's memory include his wife Jo of Newton; his sons: John (Mary) McCleary of Colfax, Iowa and Ed (Bobette) McCleary of Newton; his daughter Barb (Charles) Smith of Newton; his three grandsons and two granddaughters; his one great-granddaughter; a brother Don (Pearl) McCleary of Missouri; a sister Gladys of Missouri; many nieces and nephews and cousins; and his many good neighbors and friends.
