Betty Lou Bonawitz, the daughter of Ralph Clay Butler and Esther Tenny Campbell was born February 20, 1927, in Newton, Iowa. A life long resident of Newton, Betty graduated from the Newton Senior High with the class of 1945. On July 9, 1947, Betty was united in marriage with Gene Richard Bonawitz in Newton, Iowa. Betty worked as a Secretary for the Dunlap Company in Newton for many years. Betty was a very giving person. She loved to spend time with her family and friends. Betty enjoyed her garden and the beauty of flowers and trees. She also enjoyed playing the slots, playing cards, working crossword puzzles and playing dominos with family and friends. Betty died January 18, 2008, at her home in Newton. She was 80 years old. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Gene, on May 8, 1992. Those left to honor Betty's memory include her son and daughter-in-law, Stephen and Dianne Bonawitz of Boone, North Carolina; her three grandchildren, Janell, Ryan and Andrew; her two step grandchildren, Lauren and Ashley; her step great grandson, Rylan and her brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Loraine Butler of Clearwater, Florida.
