Funeral services for Ira Francis "Frank" Owens, 77, of Newton, Iowa, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home of Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation will be held Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until 2 p.m. services time at the Funeral Home, with the family present after 1:00 p.m. until the services on Wednesday.
Frank, the son of Ray and Daisy (Cline) Owens, was born September 12, 1930 in Exline, Iowa. One of eight siblings, he attended Exline schools. Frank had served his country during the Korean Conflict, as a Corporal with the US Army.
On December 23, 1950, in Centerville, Iowa, Frank was united in marriage with Lucine Marvin of Coal City. To the union was born two children, J. Steve and Vickie Owens. A longtime resident of the Newton area, Frank was employed for many years as a construction worker, primarily road construction. In 1993, he retired from the Maytag Company in Newton, from the Northeast Machining department. He had devoted his life to his family, and enjoyed camping and country western music. There was nothing he couldn't fix, and he had recently started taking computer classes.
On Saturday afternoon, March 15, 2008, death came to Frank at the age of 77, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Bill.
Those left to honor Frank's memory include his wife, Lucine of Newton; his son, Steve (Kathi) Owens of Newton; his daughter, Vickie (Lynn) Farmer of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; four grandchildren: Kandi, Jeremy, Josh and Jacki; four great-grandchildren: Haley, Kamree, Kyleigh and Karlee; two sisters: Goldie Dwight and Pat Ruggles; four brothers: Bob Owens, Sam Owens, Jerry Owens and Larry Owens; several nieces and nephews; and many good neighbors and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
