Funeral services for Joan Huggins, 78, of Newton, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 7, 2008, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation with the family will be 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated in Joans name to Hospice of Jasper County. Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
Joan Huggins, the daughter of Glenn William and Edith Lorene (Hockersmith) Huffman, was born November 16, 1929, in Bloomfield, Iowa. She graduated in 1947 from Bloomfield.
On September 28, 1958, Joan was united in marriage with Louis Huggins in the Christian Church in Bloomfield, Iowa. Joan worked for the Maytag Company in Newton for 29 years. She retired in 1992 from her clerical position. Joan loved her family. She enjoyed bingo and bowling. Joan was a member of he Jasper County Womens Bowling League, the Women of the Moose, the Eastern Star of Bloomfield, Iowa, the V.F.W. Newton Post #1655 Auxiliary, the American Legion Newton Post #111 Auxiliary, and the First Lutheran Church.
Joan died on Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Louis, a daughter, LuAnn, in infancy, and three brothers, Richard, Harold and Billy Huffman.
Those left to honor Joans memory include her sons, Russell and Angie Huggins of Concord, North Carolina, Randal and Nea Huggins of Dubuque, Iowa; her seven grandchildren; her two step grandchildren; and her brother, Robert Huffman of Bloomfield, Iowa.
