Funeral services for Doris N. Borts, 89, formerly of Newton, Iowa, will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 2, 2008, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home of Newton. A visitation with the family will be held from 10 until 11 a.m. Friday, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home.
Doris Nadine Borts, the daughter of Charles Smith Logsdon and Rose M. (Sego) Logsdon, was born July 14, 1918 in Baxter, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Mingo, Iowa High School, Class of 1936. Doris was a homemaker and was employed as a Nurse Aid in physical therapy at Skiff Medical Center in Newton for many years.
On June 2, 1937, Doris was united in marriage with H. Merle Borts in Mingo, Iowa. She had devoted her life to her husband and family, and was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Newton and several bowling leagues. Doris enjoyed spending time with her family and church family, playing cards, gardening, her flowers, bowling, and was an Iowa Hawkeye basketball fan.
Doris died on Monday morning, April 28, 2008 at the Lake Harris Health Care in Leesburg, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Merle on June 3, 1992; a great-grandson Lincoln Kurtis Garton; a brother; and ten sisters.
Those left to honor Doris include her daughters: Linda (Carroll) Verwers of Clermont, Florida and Gerri (Doug) Garton of Baxter, Iowa; her five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; her thirteen great-grandchildren and two step-great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; her twin sister, Delores Armstrong of Newton; her Best Friend Lucky; and her many good neighbors and friends.
Memorials in Dorothys name are being designated to the Hospice of Sumpter/Lake County, FL and the First Assembly of God Church.
