Obituary of Paul Edwin Peck

Paul E. Peck Newton, Iowa Paul Edwin Peck died early Saturday morning May 24, 2008 in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 29th at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton. Burial will follow at the Newton Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday. A public Masonic Service will be held 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral Home. The family will greet friends following the Masonic service until 8:00 p.m. Memorials may be left in Pauls name. Paul, the son of Clyde Angus Peck and Vera Violet Porter was born July 4, 1921 in Ottumwa, Iowa. As an infant, Paul was moved to Newton, Iowa. He was a graduate of Newton High School, Class of 1939. Following high school, Paul attended 2 years at Wentworth Military Academy in Lexington, Missouri. When WWII began, Paul joined the US Army to serve his country. On January 23, 1943 at Camp Adair, Oregon, Paul was united in marriage to Mary J. Birchard. After the war, Paul began working for the Maytag Company, retiring in 1977 as a Tool Clerk. Paul loved his family and over the years enjoyed golfing, bowling, airplanes, camping and traveling. Paul was a longtime member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, Past Master of Newton Masonic Lodge #59 A.F. & A.M., President of Peck Child Development Center, Lt. Governor and member of Newton Kiwanis, Jasper County Historical Society, Newton Country Club, Newton Aviation Club, Iowa Senior Golf Association, Good Sam Camping Club and Midtown Coffee Club. Those left to honor Pauls memory include his daughter and son-in-law Mary Janet and Archie Ergenbright of Newton, grandchildren and spouses Janet and Randy Clausen of Newton, Ed and Colette Ergenbright of Newton, Lori and Brant Gilmore of Newton, Mindy and Curt Roorda of Sully, Amy and Bob Antle of Newton, fourteen great-grandchildren Megan Clausen, Jenna Clausen, Bo Eggers, Taylor Hilsabeck, Emily Ergenbright, Chase Eggers, Stevi Eggers, Cole Gilmore, Allison Ergenbright, Colten Roorda, Dusti Antle, Trevor Ergenbright, Clayton Roorda, Jarrett Antle, two sisters Helen King of Ottumwa, Iowa and Polly McPherren of Clear Lake, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary Peck on January 30, 2000, two great-grandchildren Thor Eggers and Courtney Roorda and nephew Daniel McPherren.
