Obituary of Grace Maxine Thomas

G. Maxine Thomas Newton Funeral services for Maxine Thomas of Newton, will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2008, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home of Newton. A visitation with the family will be held from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home. Grace Maxine Thomas, 77, the daughter of Bruno and Bertha (Johnson) Petershon, was born November 3, 1930 near Lorimor, Iowa. At the age of 18 months, she lost her mother, and was raised by her uncle and aunt, Raymond and Rose Culver, her fathers sister. She and her family moved to the Newton, Iowa area in 1935, where she graduated from the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1950. Maxine was employed by Newton Manufacturing, in the samples department, and later as a clerk for Nollon Drug Store and Power Drug. On September 20, 1959, Maxine was united in marriage with Richard W. Thomas in Newton. She had devoted her life to her husband and family, and was a 60 plus year member of the First United Methodist Church in Newton. She enjoyed spending time with her family, camping, her owls and cardinals. Maxine died on Tuesday morning, June 3, 2008 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother Rex; a sister Doris; and Raymond and Rose Culver; and her brother and sister-in-law: Don and Eddra Culver. Those left to honor Maxines memory include her husband, Richard of Newton; a niece, Sharen (Mike) Hubler; and her many good neighbors and friends. Memorials in Maxines name are being designated to the First United Methodist Church in Newton.
