Obituary of Norma Louise Ross

Norma L. Ross Newton Funeral services for Norma Ross of Newton, will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2008, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home of Newton. A fellowship with the family will be held in the Pence Tribute Center following the service on Monday. Norma Louise Ross, the daughter of Orin and Dorothy (Utter) Kettells was born September 20, 1935 in Des Moines, Iowa. She graduated from East High School in Des Moines with the class of 1953. On August 27, 1955 Norma was united in marriage with Frank E. Ross in Des Moines, in a double wedding ceremony with Franks brother, Dick Ross and Bernice Williams. Norma was employed by Bell Telephone as a service representative. A resident of the Newton, Iowa area since 1960, Norma has been passionately involved in community activities; Newton Community Childcare Center at the Newton First Congregational United Church of Christ; League of Women Voters; CV-TTT; and was a generous contributor to numerous charities. Norma died Thursday, June 5, 2008, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. She was 72 years old. Norma was preceded in death by her parents. Those left to honor Normas memory include her husband of 52 years, Frank E. Ross of Newton; her sister, Nancy (Ron) Grout, her brother-in-law, Dick (Bernice) Ross; her children, Suzanne (Kevin) Clayton of Newton, Iowa, Linda (William) Black of Mission Viejo, California, and Jeffrey S. Ross of Newton, Iowa; her grandchildren, Betzy and Kit Clayton of Newton, Brandon and Kendall Black of Mission Viejo, California; and her great grandchildren, Graclynn and Gavin Clayton. Memorials in Normas name are being designated to the Newton Salvation Army.
