Funeral services for Shirley Buckley of Monroe, will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, June 13, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home of Newton. A visitation with the family will be held from 9:30 a.m. until service time, at the Funeral Home.
Shirley A. Buckley, 80, the daughter of Byron E. and Lulu M. (Cozad) Adams, was born March 23, 1928 in Skiff Hospital in Newton. A lifelong resident of the Newton and Monroe areas, she graduated from the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1946. Shirley was employed part time as an office worker and secretary for the Secretary of the Iowa State Fair Board, twenty years for P.A.G., and was a secretary to Norman Rooda, State Representative, for eight years.
On December 14, 1947, Shirley was united in marriage with Gene I. Buckley in the Christian Church in Newton. She had devoted her life to her husband and family, and was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Monroe. She enjoyed spending time with her family and doing small crafts.
Shirley died on Wednesday morning, June 11, 2008 in the Monarch Wing of the Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Those left to honor Shirleys memory include her husband, Gene Buckley of rural Monroe; and her many good neighbors and friends.
Memorials in Shirleys name are being designated to the Hospice of Jasper County or Iowa Alzheimers Disease Association, for research.
