Jimmie King passed away Wednesday morning, November 27, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, under the care of Skiff Hospice.
A funeral service for Jimmie will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 5, 2013, at the Baxter Evangelical Free Church. Pence - Reese Funeral Home in Newton, is entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the funeral home. Pastor Eugene Bucklin will conduct the services. Memorials are being designated in Jimmie's name to the Baxter Evangelical Free Church or Progress Industries. Burial will be in the Restland Cemetery in Baxter.
Jimmie E. King, 78, the son of Neal Leo and Juanita Janet (Mercer) King, was born October 2, 1935 in Clinton, Iowa. He had attended the Clinton schools and Auburn, IL schools.
In 1953, Jimmie was united in marriage with Carolyn A. Gray. They later divorced, and on January 1, 1978, Jimmie was united in marriage to JoAnn M. (Hills) Springer at the First Lutheran Church in Newton. Jimmie was employed by the Maytag Company, twenty six years, retiring May 29, 1992, in the Maintenance Department. A longtime resident of the Jasper County area, he devoted his life to his family and friends, and was a member of the Baxter Evangelical Free Church. He enjoyed his coon dogs and mules.
Those left to honor Jimmie's memory include his son Darin D. (Pauline) King; his daughter Kitty (J.C.) Burton; step-daughter Diana Lee (Tommy) Illingworth; step-son Donald Scott Springer; his twelve grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; a sister Leola (Larry) McPeck; and his many friends.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife JoAnn on April 2, 2012; a son David E. King; and one sister.
