Obituary of Freddie Leroy Finley

Freddie "Fred" Leroy Finley, the son of Clifford Eugene and Mary Jane (Munn) Finley, was born July 6, 1946 in Ottumwa, IA. He graduated from the Ottumwa High School in 1964. He attended Indian Hills College, Grandview College and Central College. Fred served his country in the United States Navy, serving on the USS Okinawa and USS Princeton. Fred worked for Hy-Vee beginning at Drug Town and then on to the Newton Hy-Vee store. In 1994, he transferred to the Marshalltown Hy-Vee store. He retired in 2010. On May 16, 1995, Fred was united in marriage with Judith Lyn Skaggs in Las Vegas, NV. Fred enjoyed NASCAR, golf, traveling, playing slot machines, drag races, and being a pilot. He loved his family and spending time with his grandsons. Fred died on Thursday, August 15, 2013, at Mary Greely Medical Center in Ames, Iowa. He was 67 years old. Fred was preceded in death by his father. Those left to honor Fred's memory include his wife, Judith Lyn Finley of Marshalltown, IA; his step-son, Aaron (Nicole) Jones of Marshalltown; his grandchildren, Caleb Jones and Ty Jones; his mother, Mary (Irvin "Dude") Duden of Ottumwa, IA; his brother, David Finley (Patti Work) of Iowa City, IA and his many friends. Services will be held 11:00 am, Monday, August 19, 2013, at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm, Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society or the Vietnam Veterans of America and may be left at the funeral home.
