Obituary of Richard Charles Walter Burnett

Richard Charles Walter "Rick" Burnett, 49, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Careage of Newton, under the care of Skiff Hospice. A time of fellowship with the family present will be held Sunday, 2:00 p.m., at First Christian Church. Memorials have been designated in Rick's name. Rick Burnett, the son of Richard Charles and Bonnie Sue (Hobbs) Burnett, was born June 22, 1964, in Newton. He was a graduate of the Newton Senior High, Class of 1984. He served his country with the US Navy, serving on the USS Berkeley. Rick received his secondary education in Navy Company, and later at DMACC, in Culinary Arts and Hotel-Motel Management. He was employed as the desk clerk and in maintenance for Super 8 Motel. Rick had devoted his life to his family and friends, and enjoyed life. Those left to honor Rick's memory include his father Richard Burnett of Newton; his uncles and aunts: William (Wanda) Burnett, Susan (David) Hornbuckle and Patricia (Ron) Leer; his cousins: Shane, Patrick and Jason Leer, Janese Hobbs; Michelle, Denise and David, Cindy, Jennifer and Pamela; and special friends: Kelly Phinney, Lowell Stubbe, Sarah Stubbe and Stephanie Machin. Rick was preceded in death by his mother, Bonnie on Nov. 7, 2011; his maternal & paternal grandparents; his uncle Larry Hobbs; and a cousin Louis Hobbs.
