Obituary of Roger Merton Bowie

Roger Marton Bowie, 76, of Calimesa, CA; formerly of the Newton area, died Sunday, June 22, 2013, at his home in Calimesa. He was born February 26, 1937, in Newton, the son of Martin Howard and Hilda Agnes (Schumann) Bowie. Roger graduated from the Newton Senior High School, Class of 1959. He attended Iowa State University in Ames, and later graduated from the University of New Mexico, with a degree in teaching. He had served his country with the Iowa National Guard. Roger retired as a public school teacher and also had coached football. He enjoyed all competitive sports, especially football.
Those left to honor Roger's memory include his brothers: Howard W. (Marion) Bowie of Altoona, John M. (Verna) Bowie of Runnells and Thomas (Joyce) Bowie of Newton; his sister Judy (Russ) Blom of Cedar Rapids; his brothers-in-law: Jerry McCurry of Knoxville and Jack Mortley of Albuquerque, NM; and several nieces and nephews.
A private family interment will be held in Newton Union Cemetery, at a later date.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents; and his sisters: Vivian McCurry and Inez Mortley.
