Obituary of James "J.R." Lawson Fanning

James "JR" Fanning, 85 of Newton, formerly of Kellogg passed away Monday, June 24, 2013, at the Knoxville Hospital surrounded by his family. JR was born on February 7, 1928, in Green City, MO. JR was united in marriage to Norma Jean Callison on June 20, 1953, at the Little Brown Church. JR served his country in the U.S. Army and Air Force during the Korean War. JR loved his family. He enjoyed all his pets and his family's pets, as well as, fishing and camping. He worked for Parsons and Midwest Manufacturing. He is survived by his wife, Norma; his son, Darrell (Laurie) Fanning of Kellogg; his daughter, Denise (Ken) Scheff of Newton; his five grandchildren; his four great grandchildren; his five step grandchildren; his seven step great grandchildren; and his sisters, Mary Ruth Head of Browning, MO and Beverly Roskilly of Monroe City, MO. JR was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Dennis "Bones" Fanning; one daughter, Deb Green; one great granddaughter, Regan; one sister, Doris Jean Cruse. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Amboy Grange Hall at 220 High Street in Kellogg. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society or HCI Hospice Care Services in Knoxville and may be left at the Grange Hall or Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home.
