A fellow United Methodist pastor (Dave Swinton) shared this today and I thought of your family and friends.
This morning I was re-reading a funeral sermon I gave two years ago for a young man who took his own life. Here are a few paragraphs that might be helpful for someone.--Dave
...When I was a teenager we played a game in youth group. The church was the very best place to play it. Maybe [Brent] played it here. The kids still love it! We would turn out all the lights and play a kind of reverse hide and go seek. Only one person hides and then everyone else fans out and searches for him. When someone finds him they quietly slip into the same hiding place. And then another and another crowd in as each finds the hiding place. You do this until you’re all crammed together and the last person has found you.
When I read Psalm 139 I have a similar vision of someone who feels like they have slipped into someplace that seems very dark and lonely. ("I go to the deepest depths and you are there...Even darkness shall not cover me.") But in fact, God reaches out through the darkness and touches him. And then God stoops in and joins him in the hiding place…until the light comes on.
For God has made our night as bright as the day. And we who have known this great, unmerited Love are led into a new realm: where God will dry our tears, where goodness and mercy abound, where the fish are always biting, where we all can talk to anyone, and where love never, never, never ends.—Such knowledge is almost too wonderful. But wonderful it is.

Jon was always so generous and fun to be around. Many fond memories of him hosting & grilling for the Sorority sisters at their house. Jon and Ginny were so nice to me and my disabled clients when I job coached at McDonalds many years ago for Progress Industries. A few years ago, in a conversation that included several friends and a couple of Coronas, Jon remarked ... "People don't remember you when you die..." to which I was left unable to contribute any response.
