Obituary of Gerald G. Hendershot

Gerald "Bud" Hendershot, the son of Gerald G., Sr. and Gayle Covert Hendershot, was born June 18, 1930 in Red Oak, Iowa. He graduated from the Centerville High School and attended the Centerville Junior College and Drake University.
On February 20, 1954, Bud was united in marriage with Ella J. Cathcart at the First United Methodist Church in Newton, Iowa. He worked as an accountant managing the Accounting Department of the Vernon Company from 1953 - 1993. Bud was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, the Vernon Management Club, American Accounting Association, and the Isaac Walton League. He enjoyed fishing, boating, cooking, and being with family and friends. Bud and Ella move to Park Centre in Newton in 2007.
Bud died on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Skiff Medical Center under the care of Skiff Hospice in Newton. He was 82 years old. Bud was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, and two brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.
Those left to honor Bud's memory include his wife, Ella of Newton; his daughters, Ann (Brian) Buch of Newton and Lynn (Tony) Trease of Birmingham, MI; his five grandchildren and three great grandchildren; his brothers and sisters: Jack (Joan) Hendershot of Waterloo, IA and Ft. Myers, FL; Jane (Lauren) Fisher of Wappello, IA; Julia (Ed) Shirley of Centerville, IA; and Nancy (George) Ryan of Newton; and his many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be designated to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League and Humane Society or to the Park Centre Good Samaritan Fund and may be left at the funeral home.
