Martinus Irving Christensen, 88 passed away Sunday afternoon, March 3, 2013, at Skiff Medical Center, under the care of Skiff Hospice in Newton.
The family invites you to join with them in a time of visitation and fellowship: Saturday, March 9, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the Pence Tribute Center. Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton, have been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials in Martinus' name may be left at the funeral home.
Martinus, the son of Martinus and Mary Lucy (Irving) Christensen, was born March 22, 1924, in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He was a graduate of the Audubon, IA, Senior High. Martinus had served his country with the US Army Air Corps, during World War II.
Martinus was self-employed for twenty-five years as a welder. He retired in 1989, after sixteen years with the maintenance department of the Iowa Dept. of Transportation. He devoted his life to his family and friends, and enjoyed wood carving, hunting, fishing and rock hunting.
Those left to honor Martinus' memory include his daughters: Mary (Rob) Vandeberg of Pueblo, Colorado and Jean Green of Des Moines; his sons: Jim (Shirley) Christensen of Newton and Steve (Mary) Christensen of Ontario, Oregon; his ten grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and his many friends.
Martinus was preceded in death by his parents.
