Obituary of Helen Elaine Owens

Helen Elaine Owens, 87, of Newton, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 22, 2012, at Park Centre Health Care, under the care of Wesley Life Hospice, in Newton. Memorial services for Helen will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The family will greet friends following the service. Memorials are being designated in Helen's name to the Alzheimer's Association and may be left at the funeral home. Helen the daughter of, Arthur George and Kathryn (Hummel) Hoffert, was born April 13, 1925 in Malaka Township, Jasper County, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School. Helen was a long time Real Estate Agent in the Newton area. She was a member of the Lady Elks and the Newton Moose Lodge. She enjoyed fishing, golfing, watching sports, listening to music and was an avid reader. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roger Owens; her sister, Genevieve Doane and her brothers, Carl Hoffert and Jim Hoffert. Those left to honor Helen's memory include her sons, Terry (Julie) Rose of Kellogg and Jeff (Rhonda) Rose of Ankeny; her daughter, Cindy Rose-Deeter of Warsaw, Indiana; her grandchildren: Amanda Gymer, Graham Rose-Sullivan, Christina Rose, Kelsey Lampe, Jack Deeter and Joey Deeter; her great grandchildren: Sean, Laek and Evy; her sisters: Arlene Johnson, and Sandy Sanger-Elliott; and her brother, Rollie Hoffert.
