Funeral Service for Paul "PJ" Provin of Newton, will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at the First Lutheran Church in Newton. Pence-Reese Funeral Home of Newton, has been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held from 5 p.m. until 7:00 Monday, Oct. 26 at the funeral home. In LIEU of flowers: Memorials in Paul's name are being designated; to Hospice of Jasper County or First Lutheran Church.
Paul J. "PJ" Provin, 86, the son of Ora Marshall and Orpha N. (Hildebrand) Provin, was born February 6, 1923 in Newton, Iowa. A lifelong resident of the Newton area, he attended Newton Schools, graduating from the Newton Senior High, Class of 1941.
On October 22, 1950, "PJ" was united in marriage with Mildred "Milly" Dorothy Knopf in Newton. He had devoted his life to his wife, family and friends, and was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Newton, Elks Club, past member of the Country Club and Maytag Management Club. He retired as a chemical engineer in the paint department at Maytag. He and Milly enjoyed wintering in Florida.
Death came to "PJ" on Thursday evening, October 22, 2009 in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center in Newton. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Milly on Oct. 4, 2001; and a brother Raymond.
Those left to honor Paul's memory include his brother and sister-in-law: Ed and Joyce Provin of Newton; several nieces and nephews: Bob (Mitzi) Provin, Joel (Allison) Provin, Mike Provin and Lynn (Steve) Gifford; great nieces and great nephews; and his many friends.
Calling hours will be Monday with the family will be from 5 - 7pm at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E., Newton, IA. The funeral will be Tuesday at 10:30 at First Lutheran Church, 309 E. 3rd Street N., Newton with Rev. Harold Vrankin officiating.
Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery, Newton on Tuesday.
