Obituary of Betty J. McNew

Betty J. McNew Newton Funeral services for Betty will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at Pence~Reese Funeral Home in Newton, who have been entrusted with the arrangements. A visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. In LIEU of flowers: Memorials in Betty's name are being designated; or to the Charity of your choice. Betty J. McNew, 81, the daughter of Bert and Ruby (Awtry) Michmershuizen, was born February 27, 1928 near Galesburg, Iowa. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School. On March 29, 1946, Betty was united in marriage with Charles M. McNew in Newton. She was employed by McNew Construction, as its book keeper. She devoted her life to her family and friends, and was a 69 plus year member of the Foursquare Church in Newton. She enjoyed all the activities at Heritage Nursing Home, and loved playing Bingo. Betty died on Friday evening, July 24, 2009 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Charles on April 12, 1997; her daughter Faye Tinnermeier and a brother Joe Michmershuizen. Those left to honor Betty's memory include her sons: Floyd McNew of Newton, Don McNew of Newton and Rick (Leslie) McNew, also of Newton; her ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a special friend Doris Patterson; and her many other good friends. Calling hours will be Tuesday from One hour prior to services at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E., Newton, IA. The funeral will be Tuesday at 1:30 at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home, 310 N. 2nd Ave. E., Newton. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Newton on Tuesday at 2:30 pm.
