Obituary of Mary Evelyn Herder

Mary Evelyn Herder, 79, of Monroe, passed away Saturday evening, June 9, 2012, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services for Mary will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at the Monroe United Methodist Church. The Pence - Reese Funeral Home in Newton, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Burial will be in Silent City Cemetery in Monroe, with Pastor Steve Taylor conducting the services. Memorials are being designated in Mary's name to the Monroe Fire Department or Skiff Hospice, and may be left at the funeral home or church. A time of Fellowship and lunch with the family, will follow the funeral services.
Mary, the daughter of Albert Leo Brecht Moser and Eva Marie (Davis) Moser, was born May 8, 1933, in Boulder City, Nevada. She graduated high school from Riverton, Wyoming, and received her degree from St. John's School of Nursing in Huron, South Dakota. Mary was employed as an RN at Skiff Medical Center in Newton, OB's Department.
On September 8, 1954, Mary was united in marriage with Paul Warren Herder at Fort Collins, Colorado. They moved to Newton in 1958 and then to Monroe in 1961. She devoted her life to her family and friends. Mary enjoyed baking, sewing, gardening and reading. She was a kind and warm hearted lady, and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Paul in 2010, a granddaughter Megan, and three brothers: Leo, Clifford and John.
Those left to honor Mary's memory include her children: Karen (Stan) Lester of Des Moines, Paul (Songae) Herder of Montrose, CO, Cheryl (Erik) Hansen of Kansas City, KS, Lynn (Steve) Peterson of Chamberlain, SD, Janice (Ryan) Phifer of Monroe and Mary (Don) Vaske of Monroe; her thirteen grandchildren: Jacob, Geoffrey and Zachary Peterson, Drew, Jeremy and Mesa Herder, Rachel & Braden Phifer and Meghan and Joshua Phifer, Richard Hansen, Michele and Aaron Geerer; and one great-grandson Camden; her brother Bill Moser of Boulder, CO; and her many friends.
