Obituary of Greg Lynn Swihart

Greg Lynn Swihart, 63, of Newton, passed away Sunday evening, May 13,, 2012, in Des Moines, Iowa. A Memorial service for Greg will be 5:00 p.m., Thursday, May 17, 2012, at the St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Newton. The Pence - Reese Funeral Home in Newton, has been entrusted with the arrangements. A time of fellowship and visitation with the family will be held follow the services. Father John Thorpe will conduct the services. Memorials are being designated in Greg's name for St. Stephen's Episcopal Church or Izaak Walton League. Greg, the son of Wesley and Dorothy (Diers) Swihart; was born August 18, 1948, in Graceville, Minnesota. He was a graduate of the Monroe Senior High, Class of 1966. Greg was employed and retired from the Maytag Company in Newton on June 1, 2000, after 33 years of service. On May 11, 1993, Greg was united in marriage with Diana Sue Lenz in Newton. A long resident of the Newton area, he had devoted his life to his family and friends, and was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, UAW #997 Retirees Union, American Legion Post #111 and the Izaak Walton League. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. Greg was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter Lyndsey Marie Swihart; and a sister Connie Marie Swihart. Those left to honor Greg's memory include his wife Diana; his sons: Travis Swihart and Blake Swihart, both of Prairie City; his step-daughters: Peggy (Ty) Jorgenson of Altoona, Carrie (Jim) Evans of North Liberty and Alicia Corley-Kaldenberg of Newton; his nine grandchildren; a brother Robert "Bob" (Cindy) Swihart of Newton; his special friends: Lonnie and Peggy White of Newton; and his many friends.
