Obituary of Mary Evelyn Jones

Funeral services for Mary Evelyn Jones, of Newton, will be 10:30 a.m.; Tuesday, July 12, 2011, at Pence~Reese Funeral Home of Newton. A visitation with the family will be held from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Tuesday, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Mary Evelyn Jones, 95, the daughter of John W. and Blanche (Bruner) Corrough, was born August 10, 1915, in Bondurant, Iowa. She was a high school graduate and attended two years of business school. Mary Evelyn, a resident of the Newton area since 1933, was employed in retail twenty five years at Jack and Jill Children Store and five years for Leonard's Clothing Store
On October 12, 1933, Mary was united in marriage with C. Ray Jones in Mitchellville, Iowa. She devoted her life to her husband, children and family, and was a 50 year plus member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Newton. She was also a member of Chapter EN (Tri-T) and PEO Chapter (HSPEO).
Mary Evelyn died on Wednesday afternoon, July 6, 2011, at Park Centre Health Care in Newton. She had been in Hospice Care since January. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers and one sister.
Those left to honor Mary Evelyn's memory include her husband C. Ray; her daughter Nancy (Jerry) Bishop of White Bear Lake, Minnesota; her son David M. (Becky) Jones of Pine, CO and Sanibel Island, FL; her six grandchildren: Lisa Vornwald (Mark) of Eden Prairie, MN, Aimee Johnson (Ryan) of Bloomington, MN, Eric Bishop
(Susie) of Hugo, MN, David Jones and Stephen Jones of Denver, CO, and Jennifer Jones Ladda Todd) of Cedar Grove, NJ; ten great-grandchildren; and her many good neighbors and friends.
Memorials in Mary Evelyn's name are being designated to the Congregational United Church of Christ, Skiff Hospice and Jasper County Historical Museum.
