Bill died Thursday morning July 7, 2011, in the Monarch Wing at Skiff Medical Center. A public Graveside Memorial Service for Bill Wickliff will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at McKeever Cemetery north of Colfax, Iowa. A time of sharing and luncheon will be held at the Newton VFW Post 1655 following the memorial service. Memorials have been designated in Bill's name for Skiff Hospice and the Freedom Flight.
William M. Wickliff, the son of Donald D Wickliff Sr. and Mary Mae Garrett, was born March 19, 1938, in Newton. He was graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the Class of 1956. Bill then joined the US Navy and served until 1975, when he retired. He worked as a jet mechanic during the Viet Nam War.
Bill was a life member of the Newton VFW Post 1655 and the American Legion Post 111 and was a member of the Newton Elks Lodge 1270.
Bill stayed active in his retirement enjoying outdoor activities like fishing, hunting deer and mushrooms.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald D. Wickliff Jr., brother-in-law Bob Mouchka and sister-in-law Mary Lou Wickliff.
Those left to honor the memory of Bill include his brothers Harold (Vada) Wickliff of Newton, David (Cindy) Wickliff and Jim (Carol) Wickliff all of Huntington Beach, California, sisters Betty (Donnie) Waddle of Monroe, Mary Lou DeHaai of Monroe, Jane Mouchka of Newton and Judy (Terry) Bradley of Newton. Bill was a special Uncle to all of his nieces and nephews.
