Obituary of Susan Ann Pickett

Susan Ann Pickett, the daughter of John W. and Dorothy Nadine (Stoner) Brock, was born July 4, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa.  She graduated from the Newton Senior High School with the class of 1967.

On December 6, 1968, Sue was united in marriage with Melvin “Bud” Pickett in Monroe, Iowa.  In her early years, Sue worked as a beautician in Mingo, Iowa.  Sue then went on to work for Jasper County in the auditor’s office for twenty-nine years.  Sue enjoyed stamping and making cards, feeding the birds and spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren.  Sue was a member of the First Christian Church, Faith Circle and PEO Chapter M.E.

Sue died on Thursday, November 21, 2024 at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.  She was 75 years old.  Sue was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Carey Ann (Eric) Jordan; and her brothers, Ira and James.

Those left to honor Sue’s memory include her husband Melvin “Bud” Pickett; her daughter, Kimberly (Erik) Keninger; her sister, Betty Bell; her five grandchildren, Victoria (Joe) Militello, Brock Jordan, Alex Keninger, Nate Keninger, and Isaac Keninger.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at First Christian Church in Newton.  A Facebook Live broadcast will begin at 11:00 a.m. on the Pence Reese Funeral Home and Cremation Service Facebook page.  The family will greet friends following the service during lunch, at the church.  Memorials may be designated to the First Christian Church or the Newton Arboretum and may be left at the church or at Pence Reese Funeral Home.
