Q: What was one of your favorite qualities of Thomas? A: Every Valentine’s Day Tom would come to me and purchase a very nice gift certificate for Marilyn. As I was getting it ready, he would tell me how special she was to him. He loved her so much. She loved him just as much. I loved the way they both talked about each other. Big hugs to you Marilyn. I’m so sorry that I just found out about Tom. I miss and love you my friend.

Tom was our family Doctor for over 30 years, taking care of my Dad till his passing in 1978, and Mom even when she was in the nursing home in Knoxville. Worked with him on a couple of real estate appraisals, when he need that he called me, when I need a Dr. I'd call him. Told me one time I didn't come to see him as often as I should, told Doc I didn't want to pay for one of his Corvetts! Not many Dr's like him and as carring and helpful. Anyone who knew him was trully Blessed. Rich De Heer

"Dr. J" AKA "Doc" Jessen was a cherished friend and mentor. We shared 17 seasons on the Newton Cardinal Football sidelines, he as physician and me as a physical therapist and certified athletic trainer. He had been doing this many years before my arrival and was even recognized for his volunteer sports medicine efforts in the Newton High gymnasium by a surprise visit from Gov. Terry Branstad. We had hours of conversations every Friday night and I learned a great deal from and about Tom. First, he was a devout Christian that loved the Lord. Second, he adored his wife, kids, and grandkids. Tom was very thoughtful and considerate of others and he always welcomed me to the sidelines with open arms. The world is a better place because of Tom Jessen and he will be dearly missed.
