Condolences to Ray's family, what a kind, caring, gentleman. I was blessed to meet him when he made rounds at the hospital, to visit his church members. He always had time to ask about how I was doing in later years. Just know we care. Pat and Kerry Spaur

Ray was our dear neighbor. Over the years we had great neighbor get togethers and Jerry spent a lot of time talking with Ray or helping him around the house. We will miss him so much.

This what being around Ray at the various weddings and other celebrations meant to us. He came to be the embodiment of the St. Francis Prayer.
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace,
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injury, let me pardon;
where there is doubt, let me bring faith;
where there is despair, let me bring hope;
where there is darkness, let me bring light;
where there is sadness, let me bring joy;
O Lord, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
to be understood as to understand;
to be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Ray and Jackie were great neighbors. We hit the lottery when we moved in next to them. The homemade goodies at Christmas were a bonus. Going to our neighborhood caucus (only in Iowa!) together was great fun. The kids and I send our sincere sympathies to Steve, Barb and your families.

My fabulous Uncle Ray was just an all around great guy. His faith, caring nature and bright spirit were second to none. But what I'll always remember most is his quick wit. He could always bring a smile and a giggle to any situation. Uncle Ray also married me and my husband on 8/10/91. What a beautiful memory. Love you Uncle Ray. You'll always live on in our hearts.

Ray was a great guy to be around and will be missed by a lot of people. My family and I sat behind him in church every Sunday and you could hear him crack jokes and always tried to not laugh. If you didn’t have a smile on your face while you were around him you didn’t know him very well!! Sending hugs to his family!

I started going to church with my grandparents at the church that ray was a pastor at and I remember he always would start his sermons with a joke. I came back to the church full time when I moved to Grinnell 16 years ago. Ray and his family always sat in the pew in front of us and he was always making jokes. He will be missed a lot.

The Barnett family lived across the street from my parents while I was growing up and I babysat for their children a few times. They were a beautiful family. I am deeply saddened tonight to read of the passing of Revered Barnett. I send my condolences to Steven, his son with whom I have had some contact. You have my very deepest sympathy.

I went to church with Ray my whole life. He always sat in the pew in front of us. He was always really nice and would always crack jokes with me and my nephews and neice. When I was younger I accidentally sat in his pew and was getting mad at me as a joke. He was always a great guy to be around.
